Fiber Arts Camp Afternoon Session August 7-11

Learn to weave on the Rigid Heddle Loom (1-3 pm). Each day will include something on the history of weaving, examples of weavers, types of yarn (cotton, wool, synthetic, metallic, specialty) and color and design theory. This will be spread over the time in order not to overwhelm students.
Daily Schedule
Day 1 - Brief introduction to design theory. Demonstration of warping and then warping of the individual looms
Day 2 - Finish warping if necessary. Demonstration of beginning to weave, including hemstitching. Make choices for weft and begin weaving. Help each student to hemstitch beginning of project.
Day 3 - Continue weaving on project. Address issues such as selvages, tension, beating, any problems that might arise.
Day 4 - Continue weaving on project. Have students share what they are finding challenging or fun about weaving.
Day 5 - Finish project, including hemstitching. Share projects and congratulations!
Go home with handwoven project!
